Possibly the best know transcription by Canadian Brass. This piece is played at the beginning of every Canadian Brass concert and was recorded on the recent CD, Canadian Brass Takes Flight.

This Don Gilli arrangement of "Just a Closer Walk" is a great supplement to our quintet portfloio, and was a hit at my father's funeral this past week. It is a grade 5 if played like the CBQ, but the "Bright Dixie" section at bar 33, marked at 108 beats per minute plays much easier and flows better at around 90 beats per minute. Lots of fun for a proficient quintet group.
The only detraction I can make is the notation. It is large-note and "blotchy" and not easy to sight read. If one expected the notation to offer all the CBQ performance nuances they would be disappointed as it is rather stark, but in this way the players are not encumbered by someone else's style.
